As a reviewer it is very important to keep in mind this book and series is written at a 7th Grade level and is targeted for eight to twelve year old readers. That being said ... would you recommend this book to someone you know between those ages? I would. The story and characters contain all the classic qualities most fantasy novels written for kids of this age contain, making it a pleasant escape. There are not any major moral dilemmas to be concerned about ... so kids can simply read it for the adventure and imaginative world that is described. This is one of those series of books where each volume can stand alone, but if the reader likes what they find ... they can easily move on to other books in the same series.
