This book was great! It tells about the Conquerors\Devourers new version of the Nectar of Ninani. The heir of the Earl of Trunswick, Devin Trunswick was given the Bile (new version of the Nectar of Ninani) by the well known Conqueror Zerif. Devin earns the supposedly legendary black wildcat of the North.
I thought the page that only said “He raised the flask to his lips and gulped down the Bile. It was like drinking death itself. But within that blackness, he felt something vast and strong and dark.” Was such a good hook! It made you just want to read and read and read. I thought that part of the book was great I just wanted the next chapter to be about that character.
Conor, Rollan, Meilin, Abeke, Tarik, and Finn meet a group of Conquerors and they go into battle. Tarik is bit and venom courses through his body. The group is separated and Meilin, Abeke, and Finn are together and Conor, Rollan, and Tarik are together. Conor, and Rollan take Tarik to Lady Evelyn’s tower in the woods and she says she has a cure for him. Tarik stays with Lady Evelyn until his allies return for him at the end of the book.
That battle was the first battle in the book and it wasn’t to epic but was pretty good. I think that Tarik shouldn’t have gotten bit, so that he could experience the rest of the book.
Conor and Rollan arrive at Trunswick, Conor’s hometown. In Trunswick Conor realizes that the flags no longer have Briggan on them, they have the black wildcat. Conor and Rollan enter Trunswick and are consulted by the Earl and Devin. Conor and Rollan are captured and put in the Howling House. (the Earl’s prison for people with the bonding sickness) Meilin, Abeke, and Finn help all of the prisoners of the Howling House escape.
