The Title - What to Expect When Your Wife is Expanding: A Reassuring Month-Month Guide for the Father-to-Be, Whether He Wants Advice or Not.....The only thing reassuring about this book is that the Author is actually devoid of any level of humor and/or intelligence. As the title suggests, HE'S going to give you advice whether you like it or not. The suggestion being that many men don't actually want advice. Just like we don't want directions when we are lost, or to eat sushi because it's gross. The author relies heavily upon these tired and utterly stupid "befuddled dad" type stereotypes throughout the entirety of the book.
To be honest, I read the first 10 pages and chucked it across the room and turned to my wife and said "WTF?!?" She just saw that the previous edition received high reviews and ordered it. I gave her a hug and read her some of the garbage....we laughed, not where the author tried to be funny but at his magnificent level of condescension and stupidity.
Examples abound starting on page 2: "There comes a time in life when you're just the means to a seven-pound, six ounce end." Ha....Yea that's hilarious Tom. Nothing like demeaning your reader into insignificance from the outset. Perhaps that's the way your wife, miserable I'm sure, treated you buddy, but my wife's my best friend. And after a late miscarriage during her first pregnancy, and the fact that I was the F*&^ing Rock of Gibraltar that kept her from falling apart, I can assure you of your ignorance.
Page 3: "You'll wonder about life with baby? Will you ever see your single friends again? And how will you explain that yes, you have to go home even though, yes, your wife is capable of watching the baby alone?"
Yes I do wonder about life with baby.
