Overall, this book has good advice. Practice is definitely important and in general this seems to be as good as any other.
I gave the 2013 edition 2 stars because there were several errors in the math practice tests. I also wrote the publisher.
I looked at this edition and most, but not all, of the errors have been fixed. Since I was browsing in a bookstore, I couldn't go through them carefully. If there are just one or two like that, I think it is ok because it would teach the student not to get hung up on one question. But it does speak to some sloppiness in editing. I would suggest that they hire a few top college students (some that got 36s on their tests) to take the practice tests. I seriously doubt they do that because if I can catch these, they would, too.
I deliberated between 3 and 4 stars but decided there were few enough errors to accept. I'll look again when I get a chance and revise if needed.

I've tutored the ACT since 2008, and I've read a lot of different ACT books. This one is better than many, but it falls short in a few areas, enough for me to end up feeling ambivalent about it. I might recommend it for people who only plan to buy one ACT strategy book - but hopefully you can buy more than one.
Things I liked:
- the intro to the test is readable and informative
- timing strategies and "ACT mind set" advice are sound
- good intro to the material each section will test
- some useful techniques (especially in math)
- "workouts" for each section are useful
Things I didn't like:
- practice questions and tests are not like the real ACT (please use real ACT's instead of these)
- enough bad advice is included to make certain sections dangerous
- techniques are a mix of useful and not-useful
- the "perfect scorer" tips are simplistic
- the DVD included, for some reason, was labeled "Kaplan ACT" but had a reading comprehension video for SAT
- a few questionable claims, for example: "Any score above 23 will be an asset for competitive colleges". Uh, say what now?
I think the book is a decent choice, but I'd strongly recommend that you 1. get the Real ACT Prep Guide (has real ACT's) 2. seek out specialized books for each section of the test. Yes, you'll unfortunately spend a lot more money, but this book isn't a one-size-fits-all solution even though it claims to be.
